Bullying

I guess the world has not changed. I have been going through life thinking that the world is getting tougher on kids. The issue of bullying has come up strongly in the past couple of days with news of the unfortunate incident in Canora. Travis Sleeva's suicide has been discussed all morning on 650 Talk Radio. The number of callers who have called in with similar issues from their youth was surprising to me. People who are somewhat older than I relating stories that could be told with todays youth have opened my eyes to the carefree upbringing I was given. I will not say that I was never bullied, but I was not placed into the extreme situations that both parents and children have related today.

Now with my own children, I am keeping a watchful eye on any changes that occur in their behavior. I know that I cannot protect my children from everything, but I hope to help them to have a life where they need not worry about their personal safety. It is a shame that a parent would ever even have to consider such issues.
