And I thought those of Liberal Thought are Educated

I just read a blogpost about what we should be doing in Afghanistan. You can read it here but I can save you some time. What we are supposed to do is stop the fighting and train their people to do the fighting. The people are fighting because the Taliban is paying them more in a month than they would get in a year. Where is the money coming from ... poppy crops and the opium from those crops ... but we shouldn't get rid of these crops because then the people would have no money.

Whoa there fella ... you just argued yourself in a circle. The poppy crops fund the Taliban so that they can pay the people to fight our forces, but don't destroy the crops as that is where the people get their money from. Yeah we might as well build schools and public buildings for the people who support us, so that way the Taliban can save their money and kill those who are concentrated in those buildings. Do you have any idea what you are talking about?

Here is a real plan for those who have the stomach for such things: First stop the insurgents, most of those being killed in Afghanistan are being killed by the Taliban / Al Quaeda forces.
Let the common people of Afghanistan know that you are there to protect them as a means of getting their support. Next train those people to enhance their own security and to build and reconstruct their infrastructure. This helps those people in their quest for financial stability. Pay them during their training and work (putting money into their hands). Migrate the opium trade to something more mundane if possible and crush those who would use the opium harvest for terror purposes.

Lastly, send people who flap their gums about what we should be doing in Afghanistan there. Our forces would appreciate the help and maybe that experience would show them that you cannot simply ignore those who would kill you, if you do it will result in your end more quickly.

Do not give up on this fight ... to do so ... well, I don't want to hear their plan for that.
