Vegetable Salad revisted

Last year, I wrote a post about not being able to fully cheer for the Leafs for getting Lindros. You can read that post here. Now that the Big L (or E) has left for Dallas, the Leafs can get back to the business of going for the cup. And I will not have reservations to cheer for them.

Leadership is what is needed in terms of political will and moral authority. The, I can hardly beleive that I am saying this, judge in this instance is standing up for what is right, legal and needed. The legislature in Ontario is unwilling to act, and through their ineffectiveness, the OPP is unwilling to upholf the law. I can understand this from the police force as they have to report to the government in some form or other.

Contrast this with the will and strength of conviction with Harper saying what he thinks at every turn. Not only this, but he is dragging the rest of Canada with him in his strength of character. While this happens, he offers considered opinions (the loss of one of our peace keepers in Lebanon who it turns out has emailed his Canadian superiors about the actions of Israel and Hezbollah) that show thought and insight in contrast to Kofi Anan's quick draw conclusion and accusation.

I would love to see Harper lambaste the UN for putting their men in danger and not removing them. But he is probably more diplomatic than that.

Riders Woes

In what has been a season of poor play, and serious disappointment to my thinking to this point, I think that the Riders have been extremely lucky. The play of the team has been abysmal.

They have been very lucky to win any of their games this season. The last win against BC, the Rider defense was strong in the second half. But the Riders won by 1 point ... heck I'll give them the two points they conceded in the final seconds. Look at the evidence, however. The Riders got a TD by Mitchell's hit on Dickenson for the turnover and only had a three point lead.

The defense is letting this team down. After watching the first game of the season and seeing BC do whatever they wanted, I hoped for some changes. I've listened to people stick up for Danny Barrett and while I think he is a good person, when the team performs so poorly and is so ill prepared, he is the man that is accountable.

Factor in the distractions of Kenton Keith and the lack of action taken, by coach and GM and we have the players running things. With Antonio Warren released for his lack of performance, I think the Riders could release KK and pick up Warren. He would be a great addition as he is motivated after losing his spot in BC. A statement can be made by the coach and GM and I am waiting to see if they can improve the team.

In terms of the offence, I think that Kerry Joseph is the deal and Armstead has been great.
